Dejar means to leave something or someone behind (dejé las llaves en casa), to let or allow (déjame ver), and with de + infinitive to stop doing something (dejó de fumar). It is fully regular, so the practice focuses on its meanings: dejar is leaving something, salir is leaving a place.
