Empezar Commands Practice

Empezar (to start, to begin) in the commands: 14 free exercises with an explanation after every answer, plus the full conjugation table.

14 exercisesStem-changing e→ieB1 – B2 level
IWhat to watch for

Empezar packs both of its irregularities into the imperative. The e→ie change shows up wherever the stress falls on the stem — empieza, empiece, empiecen — and the z→c spelling change appears in every form that has an e after it: no empieces, empiece, empecemos, empiecen.

Only the affirmative tú command escapes both rules in writing order: empieza, with ie and z. The nosotros form shows the opposite combination, empecemos, with a plain e and a c. Neither empezemos nor empiezemos exists.
