IWhat to watch for

The present subjunctive of estar looks tiny but is full of accents: esté, estés, esté, estemos, estéis, estén. Every form except estemos carries a written accent on the -é-, and yo and él/ella/usted share the same form, esté.

The trap is twofold: writing este without the accent (which turns the verb into the word for 'this'), and slipping back into the indicative está/están after triggers like espero que, ojalá, para que or dudo que. Context and the accent do all the work here.
