Tener Present Subjunctive Practice

Tener (to have) in the present subjunctive: 14 free exercises with an explanation after every answer, plus the full conjugation table.

14 exercisesIrregularB1 – B2 level
IWhat to watch for

The present subjunctive of tener grows out of the irregular yo form: tengo drops the -o and takes -a endings across the board — tenga, tengas, tenga, tengamos, tengan. The g from tengo survives in every single person, including nosotros: tengamos, never *tenamos.

You will meet these forms after triggers of wish, doubt, emotion and purpose — quiero que, espero que, dudo que, ojalá, para que. The trap is slipping back into the indicative (tiene, tienen) after a trigger, or losing the g in the nosotros form.
