Estar Commands Practice

Estar (to be (state)) in the commands: 14 free exercises with an explanation after every answer, plus the full conjugation table.

14 exercisesIrregularB1 – B2 level
IWhat to watch for

Estar is not one of the eight verbs with a short irregular tú command: the affirmative form is simply está, identical to the present-tense él form and written with an accent. Everything else comes from the subjunctive, where estar puts an accent on the ending instead: no estés, esté, estén — but estemos, with no accent at all.

That accent pattern is the whole difficulty of this page. Está atento (command) versus esta mañana (demonstrative, no accent); esté with an accent for usted, but estemos without one for nosotros. And as always, usted and ustedes keep the same form when the command turns negative: no esté tan pendiente del reloj.
