Dar Preterite Practice

Dar (to give) in the preterite: 14 free exercises with an explanation after every answer, plus the full conjugation table.

IWhat to watch for

In the preterite dar plays a trick: although it ends in -ar, it takes the -er/-ir endings — di, diste, dio, dimos, disteis, dieron. If you can conjugate vivir in the preterite, you already know these forms.

The classic trap is the accents: there are none. Dí and dió are among the most common spelling mistakes in Spanish — the real forms di and dio are only one syllable, so no written accent is possible.
