Saber Preterite Practice

Saber (to know (facts, skills)) in the preterite: 14 free exercises with an explanation after every answer, plus the full conjugation table.

14 exercisesIrregularA1 – A2 level
IWhat to watch for

In the preterite, saber switches to the strong stem sup- and takes the irregular endings with no accents: supe, supiste, supo, supimos, supisteis, supieron.

The bigger trap is meaning: in the preterite saber usually means 'found out' or 'learned' a piece of news, not 'knew'. Ayer supe la verdad is 'yesterday I found out the truth' — for ongoing past knowledge Spanish uses the imperfect sabía instead.
