Comer Present Practice

Comer (to eat) in the present: 14 free exercises with an explanation after every answer, plus the full conjugation table.

IWhat to watch for

Comer is the model -er verb: drop -er and add -o, -es, -e, -emos, -éis, -en — como, comes, come, comemos, coméis, comen. Beber, aprender, leer and correr follow exactly the same pattern, so these six endings do a lot of work.

The main trap is the vowel: -er verbs take e where -ar verbs take a, so the él form is come — coma is the subjunctive. Remember too that in much of Spain and Latin America comer also means to have lunch, the main meal of the day: ¿a qué hora comes?
